How to do Paperless Trade with UPS and Deftship

UPS Paperless Invoice is an industry that promotes sustainability and eliminates the need for paper commercial invoices by integrating order and shipment processing, and transmitting commercial invoice data to enable clearance by customs offices across the globe.

Deftship  makes it incredibly easy for you to implement paperless trade. Simply set up rules around your shipment and you’re done. 

To make things even easier, we have created a list of territories to help you include/exclude your shipments from paperless trade.

What is meant by Paperless Trade?


Paperless Trade refers to the exchange of trade-related information and documents through electronic means, rather than using physical paperwork.

Deftship currently offers support for paperless trade with DHL and UPS.

How does it impact the International Shipping?

Paperless trade has a significant impact on international shipping. It enhances the efficiency of customs controls and trade administration procedures, reduces the cost of conducting business, and helps maintain a competitive advantage in global trade. Consequently, governments need to collaborate on new agreements and standards to ensure harmonization and advancement in paperless trade practices.


In which countries is UPS Paperless Trade available?
We have successful integrated this feature of UPS Paperless Invoice (UPS Electronic Data Interchange or EDI), so that you don't need to print out invoice for shipping internationally. Do note that only certain countries support paperless trade and UPS keeps updating the country list.

NOTE: Only certain countries/regions support paperless trade, and UPS will keep updating the list of countries/regions, the final result is based on the label.
When to enable the UPS EDI?
 If you are shipping with a DeftShip UPS account, the UPS EDI feature is enabled by default. When you see "EDI" on the label, it indicates that the Paperless Invoice function is enabled set. In that case, you don't need to print the invoice for your shipments. This streamlined process helps reduce paperwork and simplifies international shipping for you.

WARNING:

If a shipment is NOT eligible for EDI or Paperless Invoice, it is crucial that the commercial invoice is printed and attached to your package. Failure to do so can result in returned or discarded packages.

How to know if your order is Paperless?

When you click the order, you can that their a note - "Paperless Trade". See the picture below:
